Hello! I hope you’re well. We found out about three weeks ago that we were going to have to move, and somehow managed to find and secure a place (no small feat in this insane real estate landscape), close to where we currently live; nail down a date and some movers; and get about half the place packed so far. The new lease starts today. What a year.
Anyhow, I have also assumed my new position at The New York Times — so far, a delightful group of colleagues to work with — and published a few pieces, with many more on the way:
The top ten movies of 2023 published today (and will be in the paper-and-ink newspaper on the 10th, I am told). It’s a joint article but two separate lists and musings on the year in film from our chief film critic, Manohla Dargis, and me. We did not discuss our lists before publishing, which I think makes them even more fun to read.
And last week I made my debut with a review of Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron!
Hope your holidays are off to a great start.
