Just some things
Hello, there. I am all out of sorts regarding days, so here are a few things I wanted to pass along to you:
Did you know Netflix counts you as a “viewer” of something if you watched it for two minutes? And then turned it off? That, and much more, in Bilge Ebiri’s very good Vulture piece.
Andrew Scott (for Fleabag watchers, the “hot priest”) is starring in a show at the Old Vic that will be livestreamed (on British time) a number of times next week. I bought a ticket today and I am very excited. If you’re in the US, you have to be free in the late morning and/or early afternoon, but I have no doubt it will be great.
Theater of War’s digital projects — maybe the best thing to come out of this whole debacle — include a few upcoming performances, and I’m especially excited to see Antigone in Ferguson on Sunday, August 9 at 8:30pm. Truly: Do not miss it.
One thing you can miss is Netflix’s new documentary series Fear City: New York vs the Mafia, which dropped today. It’s bad. I wrote about it.
I have been reading like a fiend, and I wanted to recommend Ideas of Heaven, by Joan Silber, which is a set of interlocking short stories (or maybe novellas) that explore the link between divine and human longing. It’s for grown-ups, and it’s good.
Finally, you might like our podcast. We recorded episode 3 today, about Monty Python’s Life of Brian, and it should be out Friday. Past episodes so far include The Late Great Planet Earth and Chronicles of Narnia. I believe McGee & Me is en route. You can subscribe in your favorite podcast player and also here at our website.
