Continuity preserved
I’ve been working my way home from the Sundance Film Festival, an experience that was quite good — you’ll see my posts about the films later, or you can find them on Vox or this Twitter thread — and I am planning to watch a bunch more films before the end of the festival on Sunday, but from home.
As a result I’m exhausted, and won’t be saying much right now. The festival was wonderful, but a lot of turmoil in all of my professional lives is making the whole “thinking” thing a bit tricky, and that’s just how it is.
So I am combining this week’s post, with a few links!
I sang the praises of my favorite activity: dining out alone.
I wrote about the film adaptation of Cat Person, the new film Fair Play, a doc about Brett Kavanaugh, and the rage of entitled men.
Also wrote about the transcendent Past Lives, which I am confident is one of the year’s best. (If it’s not, we’re in for an incredible year.)
And I joined the fine folks at Film Comment (the publication of Film at Lincoln Center) to talk about some Sundance movies on their first and second podcasts from the festival. One recorded well past midnight!
I have seen some wonderful live performances over the past couple of weeks, and I’m reading some good books, so rest assured that I’m cooking up something fun to read! But for now: I need to watch some movies.
